Last week Friday VE Day (The end of WW II in Europe) was commemorated by a unique event. It was a flyover of Washington DC by 56 vintage WWII airplanes. These planes were not replicas but vintage planes that actually flew in WWII. It's amazing that after 70 years these planes are still airborne. All of them are extremely rare and the B-29 in the slide show below is the last one flying.
The planes flew adjacent to the National Mall and then circled off at the World War II Memorial. A few remaining WWII veterans witnessed the event at the Memorial. The veterans of the war are almost as rare as these planes are.
I hope you find the slide show as interesting as I did. These pictures represent an historical event that I was so happy to have witnessed.
